Shanklin's Award Winning Beach*

Only a short walking distance from the Marlborough Hotel you will find a long stretch of golden sandy beach where you can relax and soak up the sun, build sand castles, and go for a dip in the lovely clean waters. You might even be lucky enough to find a prehistoric fossil on the beach (The Isle of Wight is often referred to as "Dinosaur Island")!

Shanklin Esplanade

Shanklin Esplanade has numerous pubs, tea rooms, cafes and ice cream parlours. Deck chairs, dinghies and paddle boards are available to hire, and children will love the amusements, crazy golf, go carts and other seaside activities and attractions.

Shanklin Old Village

Take a wander into the charming old village of Shanklin with it's picturesque thatched cottages, quirky craft and souvenirs shops, tea rooms, pubs and restaurants. Enjoy an indulgent cream tea, or catch an open air concert at the bandstand in Rylestone Gardens. There is always so much to see and do!

Shanklin Chine

Shanklin Chine is the oldest tourist attraction on the Isle of Wight (first opened in 1817). Explore the rare plants and wildlife in this magical leafy gorge, which is beautifully illuminated with lights in the summer evenings. Shanklin Theatre

Shanklin Walks & Cycle Routes

There are many walking and cycling routes to explore in and around Shanklin. The Shanklin to Ventnor coastal walk is particularly highly rated for its fresh sea air, spectacular views, and good watering holes at either end. Bicycle hire is available from the Marlborough Hotel reception. There are horse riding stables a short journey out of Shanklin town. This can also be arranged from our activity desk.
